Yesterday, Qatar's National Development Strategy 2011-2016 was launched, presenting new initiatives on developing a broad range of projects Qatar is undertaking. It lists Qatar's goals for the future and QNV 2030 rests on four main pillars: human, social, economic, and environmental development. As we saw on our trip to Dohaland, many of the projects Qatar is pursuing focuses on linking the past with the future and maintaining Qatar's tradition and culture.
Qatar's management of its hydrocarbon resources will continue to secure improvements in standards of living, but those improvements cannot be the only goal of society. The National Development Strategy 2011-2016 thus aims to balance five major challenges identified in QNV 2030, namely moulding modernisation around the preservation of Qatari culture and traditions, balancing the needs of this generation and those of future generations, managing growth and avoiding uncontrolled expansion, matching the size and quality of the expatriate labour force to the selected path of development and aligning economic growth with social development and environmental management.
It is very effective of Qatar to have well organized plan for 2030, as there are many things being undertaken that all need to fit in together well for the benefit of the country and it's people. Including, Qatar 2022 being obviously the most publicized, in addition to the expansion of educational institutions, museums, Dohaland, other territorial developments, and numerous other projects. It is also noteworthy that the goal is to eventually not have oil and natural gas as the most important form of income for the country.
Also, education and training investment are significant. "Recognising deficits in its education system and in broader capabilities within the country, Qatar has invested heavily. Government education spending has steadily increased to about 5 percent of GDP in 2008."
